Kristin Horst is the artist and floral designer behind ALTERNA FLORA, a queer-owned floral design studio based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Founded in 2020 in Kristin’s West Philadelphia apartment, ALTERNA FLORA grew through word of mouth, Instagram, and a floral style that was difficult to mistake for anyone else’s. Today, Kristin creates bold, sculptural floral design for weddings, events, brands, businesses, and hospitality spaces throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.

With an art-school background and years of floral experience, Kristin approaches flowers as composition. Color, movement, texture, scale, and unexpected materials all shape the work. Rather than starting with a formula, she looks at the space, the people, and the feeling a project needs to create, then builds from there.

Her work spans weddings, installations, commercial spaces, recognizable brands, and creative collaborations. Whether transforming an event or creating recurring florals for a business, the goal is the same: make the flowers feel like they belong there and make them impossible to ignore.

ALTERNA FLORA favors seasonal and locally grown flowers whenever possible, along with foam-free, reusable, and lower-waste mechanics.

Inclusive by nature, experimental by instinct, and always open to a good idea that gets a little weird, ALTERNA FLORA works throughout Lancaster, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, York, Lebanon, Reading, and surrounding areas.
